Charity F. McConnell, MD, FAAD
Dr. Charity Foster McConnell joined Franklin Dermatology Group in August of 2001. She became the first full partner to join the founders of the practice, Drs. Dana and Paul Latour, in 2003.
A native Tennessean, Dr. McConnell grew up in Lexington, a small town in western Tennessee. As an undergraduate, she attended Vanderbilt University, graduating in 1992 with a B.S. in Molecular Biology.
Dr. McConnell met her future husband, Bill McConnell, while in college at Vanderbilt and they married in 1995. She graduated medical school from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. McConnell was an internal medicine resident at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for two years from 1996-1998, at which point she realized that her true “calling” was dermatology.
In order to realize that “calling”, she and her husband moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for her to receive her dermatology residency training at Wake Forest University School of Medicine (Bowman Gray Campus) from 1998-2001.
Dr. McConnell enjoys all aspects of dermatology, including medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She prides herself on thorough, high-quality care for patients of all ages. In addition, her practice philosophy is to make every patient feel important and that their voices are being heard.
Dr. McConnell is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). She also enjoys being a member in several medical and professional organizations, including the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Nashville Dermatology Society, Tennessee Women in Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the Tennessee Medical Association.

Karen C. Broussard, MD, FAAD
Dr. Karen Chen Broussard joined Franklin Dermatology Group in 2015. She is originally from Cedarburg, Wisconsin. As an undergraduate at Yale University, Dr. Broussard was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Honor Society and graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering.
Dr Broussard then attended medical school at Vanderbilt University where she conducted clinical research in numerous fields of study, including dermatology. Dr. Broussard completed a one-year internship in Internal Medicine at Emory University prior to her residency training in Dermatology at Vanderbilt University where she served as Chief Resident in her final year.
Dr. Broussard is passionate about the field of dermatology and values establishing a close doctor-patient relationship in order to provide the highest quality care for her patients. She practices medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Broussard is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). She is also a member of the Nashville Dermatology Society, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Broussard resides in Franklin with her husband and their two children. She enjoys running, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Lesley L. Starnes, MD, FAAD
Lesley Littrell Starnes joined Franklin Dermatology Group in August of 2017. A native of Middle Tennessee, Dr. Starnes is originally from Waverly. As an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Dr. Starnes was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2006. She then attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in her third year and graduated summa cum laude in 2010.
Dr. Starnes completed a one-year internship in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, where she remained to complete her residency in dermatology, serving as Chief Resident her final year. After residency, Dr. Starnes practiced in Jackson, Tennessee with the Jackson Clinic, PA for three years before moving to be closer to family and joining Franklin Dermatology Group in 2017.
Dr. Starnes discovered her passion for dermatology as a fourth year medical student and has never looked back. She enjoys caring for patients of all ages and practicing the full spectrum of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Starnes strives to provide compassionate, high-quality dermatologic care centered around the individual patient with a focus on effective communication and patient education.
Dr. Starnes is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). She also enjoys membership in the Nashville Dermatology Society and Tennessee Dermatology Society.
Dr. Starnes resides in Brentwood with her husband, Chris, and their three children, Isaiah, Leah, and Ella. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, traveling, and Volunteer football.

Alexandra Navarro, MD, FAAD
Dr. Alexandra Navarro joined Franklin Dermatology Group in 2020. She is a native of Franklin, TN and she attended Vanderbilt University graduating with a B.E. in Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering.
During her undergraduate career, she was awarded the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholar award and was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Honor Society. Dr. Navarro attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. During this time, she published research concerning skin conditions in both adults and children.
She completed an internal medicine internship at Emory University before returning to Nashville for her dermatology residency at Vanderbilt University. She served as Chief Resident during her final year.
Dr. Navarro has a strong commitment to the improvement in the quality of life of her patients with an emphasis on patient-centered care. She is a skilled medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatologist and patients appreciate her caring and kind demeanor. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Navarro enjoys cooking for family and friends, running at middle Tennessee’s numerous beautiful parks and exploring the inventive Nashville food scene with her husband, Gilberto.

Vineet Mishra, MD, FAAD
Dr. Vineet Mishra is our Mohs surgeon, a cosmetic dermatologist, and a venous disease specialist at Franklin Dermatology Group. Being a native Tennessean and Nashvillian, Dr. Mishra attended University School of Nashville prior to attending Vanderbilt University for his undergraduate degree where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Neuroscience. He completed his medical education at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
For his internship and dermatology residency, Dr. Mishra chose to stay in the south where he trained at Emory University for his medical internship and University of Alabama-Birmingham for his dermatology residency . For the last leg of his medical training, Dr. Mishra completed his Procedural Dermatology fellowship at Scripps Clinic in San Diego, CA under the tutelage of world-renowned Mohs surgeon, Dr. Hugh Greenway.
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Mishra was recruited to Texas and was an Associate Professor of Dermatology and Director of Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio for 5 years. Being quite in demand as a phenomenal Mohs, cosmetic, and venous disease surgeon, Dr. Mishra was then recruited back to Scripps Clinic by Dr. Greenway where he has been in practice for the last several years….but Dr. Mishra began to feel the desire to return to Nashville to be closer to his family.
His interests and expertise include Mohs surgery, laser medicine, cosmetic dermatology, and venous disease. He is an active member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, American College of Phlebology, and American Academy of Dermatology. He also co-chairs the annual Chief Academy. He is a board member for the American College of Phlebology, American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine, and Dermatology Education Foundation.
Dr Mishra has previously served on the boards of the Texas Dermatological Society and American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin – Young Physician Section. He has published many scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored numerous book chapters. Dr. Mishra lectures nationally on cutaneous oncology, laser medicine, phlebology, and cosmetic dermatology.
He also continues involvement in public policy at the state and federal level as well as through his work in the American Medical Association House of Delegates. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, tennis, and traveling.
Nikki Wood, APRN-BC
Nikki Wood joined Franklin Dermatology Group in 2015. A native of West Texas, Nikki grew up in a small farming community. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Texas Tech University, she received her master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2000. While there, she was awarded “Most Outstanding Student” in her specialty program.
Nikki is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and has received specialty training in medical dermatology, laser surgery, and cosmetic injections of neurotoxins and fillers. She is interested in all aspects of dermatology and especially enjoys helping others to feel positive toward the appearance of their skin.
Nikki resides in Franklin TN. Her favorite activities are spending time with her daughter, reading and traveling.
Emily Stewart, APRN-BC
Emily Stewart joined Franklin Dermatology Group in October 2009. Born and raised in Somerset, Kentucky, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Nursing from the University of Kentucky in 2001.
After graduation, Emily relocated to Nashville and gained experience as a cardiac nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Wanting to further her education, Emily decided to attend the family nurse practitioner program at Belmont University. She graduated with honors in 2005, and became a board certified family nurse practitioner. After having her first child, who suffers from eczema, Emily became very interested in the field of Dermatology. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Tennessee Nurses Association, and the Dermatology Nurses Association’s Nurse Practitioner Society.
Emily resides in Brentwood with her husband, Brent, who manages his family-owned lumber business. They have two daughters, Gretta-Kate and Temple. Away from work she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and UK basketball. Go Cats!
Lissa Rhodes, APRN-BC
Lissa Rhodes joined Franklin Dermatology Group in April 2017. Although born in New Orleans, LA, Lissa moved to Franklin, TN at a young age and considers herself a native.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Middle Tennessee State University, then gained experience as a registered nurse in the emergency department at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the Master of Science in Nursing program at Belmont University, and is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Lissa has always had a strong interest in dermatology and first joined Franklin Dermatology Group as a nurse while closely training alongside the practice’s senior providers.
Lissa resides in Spring Hill with her husband, Chris. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, running, yoga, traveling, and Dallas Cowboys football.
Kaylyn Bourne, APRN-BC
Kaylyn Bourne is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) at Franklin Dermatology Group. She joined the practice in 2018 after relocating from Chicago, Illinois. Kaylyn practices medical dermatology and provides high quality care to both pediatric and adult patients.
Kaylyn earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Lewis University and her Master of Science in Nursing at Chamberlain University. Her nursing experience includes work in neurosurgery, intensive care, post anesthesia recovery, and private practice dermatology. Nurse Bourne is a member of the Dermatology Nurses’ Association and is co-chair of the Environmental Scanning Committee. She treats a wide variety of skin, hair, and nail disorders. Skin cancer screenings, pediatric dermatology, and acne are a few of her favorite work related interests.
Outside of work, Kaylyn enjoys spending time with family and friends. Some of her favorite pastimes include learning, cooking, trying new restaurants, and taking walks. Kaylyn resides in Nashville, TN with her husband Hampton.
Sunny Birdsong, Aesthetician
A native of Nashville, Sunny Birdsong started her career with Franklin Dermatology Group in 2001 as a massage therapist and soon expanded her skill set to become a medical aesthetician. Training with our former practice owners Dr. Paul and Dr. Dana Latour and current practice owner Dr. Charity McConnell she made aesthetics her first priority. Sunny honed her skills to service a wide range of cosmetic and acne clients for over 19 years.
Working in the field of medical aesthetics Sunny has learned to adapt the tried and true techniques while staying up to date on new and trend setting services to provide a comprehensive experience. “Providing excellent care and seeing clients happy and excited to return is my number one goal. Experience is my number one qualification and I use the knowledge I’ve gained to educate and serve my clients so they can make smart decisions when they are here and at home.”
Married to her high school sweetheart for almost 20 years Sunny and her husband share their home with two feisty French bulldogs Piper and James in Spring Hill.
Chrissy was born and raised in California and in 2017 she moved to Tennessee. She and her husband are proud to call Middle Tennessee home.
Growing up she dealt with skin issues herself and eventually felt a calling to help people with their skin problems. She decided to pursue her dream at AVEDA to become an aesthetician to help clients with this! After working in the spa industry for several years, she decided she was ready to enter the medical setting and really make a difference in patient’s lives.
Her goal is to make people feel comfortable in their own skin and to help them achieve their desired results by providing the best skin care advice possible. Chrissy loves Bravo TV, being outside, kayaking and all animals, especially her rescue pigs: Brandy, Moonshine, and Fancy!
Emily joined Franklin Dermatology Group more than a decade ago and has worked her way from quite literally the bottom to the top! She has gained a wealth of knowledge and has become an indispensable part of Franklin Dermatology Group. She’s the person behind the scenes that keeps Franklin Dermatology Group and the Aesthetic Center of Franklin Dermatology Group running like a well-oiled machine. She is our problem fixer, is passionate and driven when it comes to all things FDG, and truly devotes herself to the job and our employees.
Emily is a lover of Bravo TV, shopping, red wine, taking educational courses and Orange Theory Fitness. Emily enjoys time with family, friends, and most importantly, her feisty diva of a dog, Aerial.
